The Atlas Copco B-Air 185-12 is a groundbreaking innovation as the world’s first battery-driven portable screw compressor. This unit offers a clean, quiet, and highly efficient solution for a wide range of applications, providing the freedom of compressed air without the need for a diesel engine or a constant power connection.
The B-Air 185-12 is designed for autonomy and sustainability. Powered by a 57 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, it can deliver a full working shift of operation under typical conditions on a single charge. This translates to zero local emissions, making it an ideal choice for sensitive environments and urban areas with strict noise and pollution regulations. The unit’s exceptionally low noise level of just 61 dB(A) at 7 meters ensures a more comfortable and safer working environment.
Equipped with an in-house designed 37 kW permanent magnet motor and advanced Variable Speed Drive (VSD) technology, the B-Air 185-12 offers exceptional energy efficiency, up to 70% more efficient than a comparable diesel-driven compressor.
The PACE (Pressure Adjusted through Cognitive Electronics) system further enhances versatility, allowing users to easily adjust the working pressure between 5 and 12 bar (72-175 psi) to suit various applications, from powering handheld tools at lower pressures to sandblasting or cable blowing at higher pressures. The Free Air Delivery ranges from 5.3 m³/min (185 cfm) at lower pressures to 3.7 m³/min (130 cfm) at 12 bar.
The B-Air 185-12 is built to withstand tough conditions, featuring a robust, liquid-cooled battery pack in a triple enclosure for maximum protection. The IP66-rated permanent magnet motor is fully sealed against dust and water ingress. Maintenance requirements are significantly reduced compared to diesel compressors, with service intervals of 2,000 hours for the electric B-Air 185-12, four times longer than a typical diesel unit.
